This course is designed for middle school students (5th and 6th grades) and uses Bob Jones University English, Spelling and Literature. Students will learn communication skills through the context of great literature. The course creates a deeper understanding of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, writing mechanics and reading comprehension.
This course uses lecture, hands-on projects, spelling tests, grammar tests and a writing mechanics intensive.
Curriculum (both 5th and 6th grades use these books): BJU 5th Grade English Writing and Grammar Textbook, 2nd Edition, and BJU 5th Grade Spelling Book, 2nd Edition. Novels: Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink.
5th and 6th Grades
